Another Poopy Story

Pictures from this weekend are still coming, I promise, but I haven't had a chance to edit them yet and need to tell this story from this morning while it's fresh in my head.  You know how I told you that Hannah has learned how to take off her diaper? (You probably know where this is headed...)  This morning she was crawling around the kitchen while I cleaned up from breakfast and I heard the rrrrriippp of a velcro tab. I looked down at her and thought, "I hope there's not a poop in there. I should check."  But I didn't check. I don't know why I didn't check; I know that she's a morning pooper and I know that she hadn't pooped yet that morning so odds were HIGH that there was a poop in those pants, but I didn't check. I just kept right on doing what I was doing.  With her diaper half hanging off of her, she hightailed it from one end of the kitchen to the other and plopped herself down in front of this little truck I bought her yesterday. I kept one eye on her and frequently glanced over with both eyes in the way that is customary for mom's with young kids who are trying to get things down.  And then I noticed it.  The poop-like substance that was smeared all over one leg and foot. A closer inspection revealed that said poop-like substance was indeed poop and that it was also creeping up her stomach via the belly button highway.  I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, but nothing ever really prepares you for your baby covered in poop, even foresight and logic.  So I carefully picked her up by her non-poopy parts being careful to hold her out and away from my entire non-poopy self and carried her up to the tub.  After rinsing her off completely, I put her at the far end of the tub, rinsed the floaters down the drain, and filled the tub with clean water so I could soap her up and scrub her down.  And thus begins another exciting day!

  1. And another example that progress hasn't really progressed us - in your toddler years, you never learned how to unpin your diaper.

  2. So you're saying that the old fashioned cloth diapers with their diaper pins were better than my new fangled cloth diapers with velcro? I can see your point given today's incidence, BUT, I love my Bum Genius.

  3. not sure if it would work but try putting the diaper on backwards so the velcro is in the back. That's how the gdiapers are designed and neither kid (granted Asa doesn't wear them often) figured out how to remove them.

ALSO, get diaper covers - like baggie undies... i have a couple you can have. Keeps em from undoing the diaper... usually... and you don't care if they become a mess cause no one sees em but you.

  4. Awesome! I was thinking today that I should use the little bloomer type thingys that come with dresses to keep her from being able to access the velcro. I didn't know they made something specific to cover the diapers. I'll have to look into it. And also, we gotta play soon. I miss you.
